How to refashion a Baby Gown into Toddler Pants

   This is a fast and easy tutorial on how to make these cute baby pants. 

When my baby was a new born I loved the baby gowns because they are so easy for changing the baby.

Now my baby is 19 months old and has long out grown the baby gowns. 
So I have come up with this ver easy step by step tutorial on how to Refashion a baby gown into a a pair of baby pants. 
This is a VERY easy sewing project and I think an excellent tutorial for those of you who are just starting to sew, or if this is your first refashion.

This is a tutorial on how to make easy baby pants by refashioning a baby gown. This is how they will look when you are finished.

I used a size 0-3 month baby gown and ended with pants that were about 18-24 month.

This is a very fast project it should only take you 10-30 minutes. OK enough talk lets get to the baby pants refashion project! 

               What I used for this project

For this project you need 

1) A baby gown with elastic around the bottom.

2) Pants that fit

3) Sewing supplies. I did this by hand(faster than threading the bobbin) With a machine this will only take about 60 seconds!

Step 1

Cut a straight line across the bottom of the arms(we will not be using the arms for this project).Then remove the arms and save them for another project. *Tip Cut as close to the arms as you can saving the most fabric for your new baby pants.

Chop,Chop,Chop

Step 2

Place the pants on top of the fabric, matching the waistband of the pants with the elastic from the gown. This elastic will be the new waist band. Then Make a mark with your chalk at the crotch of the pants. I used pants that had a low crotch so my pants would come out very loose and good for around the house. 

Easy as can be!

Step 3

Cut up to the chalk mark in the fabric with your sewing scissors.

Step 4

Turn inside out so the right sides are facing in. Then stitch up the leg, with your machine or use a good old thread and needle. Turn back right side out and press with your iron on low. *Tip try them on you baby to get the correct length. If you want you can then cuff the legs up and put in some small stitches to hold up the cuffs. You will be able to undo the stitches as your baby grows you these pants should last a long time.

In my rush to take photos before it was too dark I did not stitch my cuffs. You will she this in the photos.

And I have to tell you these Pants look so freaking cute on, I way over did it with the pictures of my little man in them.

Look at my little man! He Loves his new pants! He got mad when I kept trying to fold them hem for the photos, so I guess you need to sew them up if you prefer a little cuff.

. DIY Kate Spade Terry Flats tutorial part 1

I love to refashion, anything... but my favorite thing to refashion is shoes. If you know me, and you do, then you should know that my first word was shoes! So maybe that is why When I saw the Kate Spade Summer Soiree. challenge I knew that I would have to refashion a pair of shoes. I found the Kate Spade "Terry Flat" for my inspiration.

This refashion is NOT hard but it will take a while so I made this a two part tutorial. This is part one.

Step 1

If your shoe has a texture that you do not want to keep, like mine did, you can fix it with a  little hot glue. Just fill in the parts that you want to be smooth. A side note you can also use hot glue to add textures.

Step 2

Cut out a piece of fabric that will cover the shoe. Then cut a slit down the middle and cut little slits all around. Hopefully the photo below will help my description make some since.

Step 3
Add fabric Mod Podge to the shoe. Anyplace that you want to have the new fabric needs to have a layer of Mod Podge. (I was going to cover the whole shoe but at the last minute I decided it would be fun to leave the heal as is)

Step 4
Smooth your fabric over the Mod Podge on the shoe. Just use your fingers to place the fabric on the shoe, smoothing out any wrinkles that my occur.  Then Cut the extra fabric away, very close to the edge of the shoe.

Step 5
Use a knife or other utensil to push the fabric into all the nooks and crannies. You want to push the fabric under any seams that you can. Also Push the fabric along the bottom with the knife. After you have pushed the fabric into all the seams, let the glue dry.

Step 6
Now it is time to add a a layer of the fabric Mod Podge to the top of the fabric. Just paint the glue on and let it dry. You can speed this up by putting your shoe in the sun on in the oven on 100 degrees (but not higher) 

OK we still need to make the toe pink! And the heal blue AND add some gloss...next time :)

How to Make an Easy Button Ring

I really wanted to make a ring last night, but I don't own a mandrel. So I went on line to order one one, and it was going to take two days for shipping! TWO! When I have a craft-spiration I can not wait two days... I mean really? Art waits for no one. So with a ring in one hand I started on a mission around my home, slipping the ring on random mandrel shaped items. Like the prince with Cinderella's glass slipper, I eventually found the candle stick to slip the ring on. Then it was no longer just a candle stick but a beautiful  mandrel.It was a perfect fit. Now I know just how Cinderella felt.

This is what I used to make this easy wire wrapped button ring. I used is 22 gauge, you can use any size you are comfortable working with.

Step 1
Slide your ring on to the tapered candle and make a mark. Later this mark will work as a guide for sizing your new ring. When sliding the ring on to the candle it is best to choose a ring that is one size larger than you want to make you new ring. In this wire wrapping process you will loose about 1/2 to 1 whole ring size. However if you don't have a ring that is one size larger, I will show you a trick so your ring will still work out. 

Step 2
With your wire cutters, cut a length of wire. I used about 30 inches of 22 gauge wire. I am making a size 5 ring. This length of the wire you cut will depend on how large of a ring you make and the gauge of wire you are working with.

Step 3 
Place the center of your cut wire against the back of the candle then wrap the wire twice around the candle(more times if you want a thicker ring) Leaving two even lengths of wire on both sides of the candle. 

Note: If you made your mark on the candle with a ring that fits the way you want the new ring to fit then you will do this step slightly above the mark. If you used a ring the next size up then you will work right on the mark.

Step 4

Bring the two ends of the wire together on top of the ring. Pinch them together. 

 Note: Note photographed (This is also a good time to use your pliers to tighten the wires on the candle so they are close and tight to each other._

Step 5
Slide the two wire tails through the shank of the button. Then slide the button all the way down to the base of the candle. Hold the button firmly down.

Step 6
Wrap the two tails around the back of the candle one more time. 
 I would again use your pliers to gather the all the wires and keep them as tight as I can.(not photographed)

Step 7

Pull one end of the wire out of your way so you can work with latter. Next start working the available end of wire( it should be on "top") wrap this wire around the buttons shank to cover it. Keep wrapping until you have the whole shank covered. 

Note: You can work this on or of the candle. 

Step 8 

Use the end of wire that was pulled to the side. Also know as the only wire that is left to work with..Start wire wrapping it around the ring. Wrap the wire all the way around until you get back to the top of the ring. Then wrap over the little end that remains of the other piece of wire that you used to cover the shank. When you are done if any ends of your wire are in a position that it will snag on things then you can file it down.

That is it! You are all done and your ring should look amazing! This is how mine looks and I love it!
